We are delighted that you are interested in enrolling your child in Northwest Chinese Academy!

Our goal is to develop students who have a strong foundation of language, multicultural and critical-thinking skills to compete and contribute successfully in an increasingly interdependent global society.  We provide a school environment that supports cooperation, creativity, resourcefulness and the love of learning.

We strive to attract and develop talented, enthusiastic, and intellectually curious students who will thrive in an immersion environment, meet the expectations of a unique and challenging curriculum, and contribute successfully to a globally interdependent world.  NWCA provides individualized learning support for all students with the expectation that they will reach their highest potential as they progress through their journey at NWCA.

We place an emphasis on accepting students from families who embrace comprehensive language immersion education, who are interested in a rigorous and rewarding academic program and student-centered community, and who are committed to helping their child develop into respectful global citizens.

We accept preschool age children starting at 3 years of age.  Students who wish to enter grades 1 through 6 must demonstrate grade-appropriate Mandarin language proficiency.

Applications should be completed and submitted to NWCA no later than May 30, prior to the school year for which you are applying. Offers of admission will be made the second week of June. Offers of admission for applications received after May 30, and for family meetings conducted after May, will be made on a space available basis.

Please do not hesitate to call the Office of Admissions for an update on your child’s admissions status. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding our program.  Please contact us at 503-546-3455 or by email, info@nwchineseacademy.org.

The Northwest Chinese Academy admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs and athletic and other school administered programs.

In all cases, NWCA retains the right to determine, in its sole discretion, whether or not to select a student for admission or to re-enroll a student.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

What follows is an outline of the application process.

1.  Attend one of our Open Houses or schedule a tour.

The best way to learn about the Northwest Chinese Academy is to attend one of our family friendly Open Houses or to schedule a tour. Open Houses are held in the fall and spring or you may schedule you own tour of our school. Please call our Admissions Office at 503-546-3455 for details.  We encourage scheduling tours during normal school hours so that prospective families are able to observe and experience our unique immersion environment in action.

2.  Complete and submit application materials.

You will need to complete all application materials before your child’s application can be considered.  Application materials include application form and parent/guardian questionnaire.  A teacher recommendation is required for student applicants with prior formal education experience.

3. Complete a family interview (and student assessments if appropriate)

Once your application materials have been received, a family interview will be scheduled.  The family interview will be conducted with NWCA’s Principal and Vice-Principal.

Where it is appropriate, testing and/or interviews are used to assist in the assessment of each candidate.  A student assessment is normally required for students who are transferring from another institution.  A student assessment may be scheduled following the family interview.

4. Notification of Admission

Families will be notified of admissions decisions by phone call.  Offers of admission will be made through mid-June prior to the academic year for which an application has been made.

Offers of admission for applications received after May 30 will be made on a space available basis.
